Artist's Comments

Erik from phantom of the Opera.
He had a Morphine addiction in the Susan Kay book "Phantom"
Good read.

Medium: Watercolours, on Water colour paper - Inked with Deleter #3 black waterproof ink.
Erik concept by Gaston Leroux.

Edit: At Kdelns suggestion I made some changes. If you want to see the original you can see it here: [link]

Darkened and dephtened the chesterfeild.. and everything else. Added some blue and grey to his hands and feet, for corpsish unhealthyness.
Overall made it alot darker.
Thank you so much for the critique Kdeln ^_^

Scans for shit though, tried to edit it as much as possible to look like the original, but everyones monitor is goign to display it diffrently.
Original looks way better.

I really like how the hands are in this piece. The coloring is also a nice job. Not sure about the feet but I really really like the hands very nice.

Oh man that just... completely makes me cringe (in a good way XD) I'm always prone to sympathy pains over things like that, you did an excellent job on the needle holes and bruising... my god I want to stick his arm in warm water to ease my pain XD You've really been outdoing yourself on these latest pieces, this is fantastic! I love the slow dark shroud that seems to be engulfing the picture, it gives me the impression that he's abused enough substances by now that death is waiting in the background for him and that shroud will soon fall completely over him and take him.

I love the colour choices you made in this! As I said, the bruising is awesome, and his face is so ill-looking, espescially the bags under his eyes, excellent! That odd grin is really fitting as well ^_^ I think it would really bring out the mood of the picture if his overall skin tone had been rather grey, since his feet and arms (and chest a bit) seem a healthier tone in comparison to the rest of the mood. Nice chest hair by the way, it looks completely natural =D

I feel that the table and chair are a little flat in appearance, I'd love to see you accentuate the shadows on the chair, like in the ruffled edge on the bottom, the and the 'pin' indents on the edges of the arms (that round button thing, I never remember what they're called), and his shadow on the chair as well maybe. The table is good, except the leg we can see is a little slanted which takes away from the impression of sturdiness I get from the tabletop and the nice dark shadow you put along the side of it to give depth.

For the background, as I said I love that shroud effect, but it feels a little empty on the left-hand side where it lightens. I don't get a sense of anything behind that chair, or off away from it... perhaps a bit of candle light seaming the edges of things to show there's more to the area and it doesn't feel so lost? Candle light might take away from the mood though o_0 Blah, whatever would work XD

On my screen (which tends to be ridiculously good for black contrasts) there's a little bit of a solid black blob on the right side that takes away from the flow of the background, but then I wonder if many other people would notice that, so it may not matter.

You've really made some wonderful improvements in these last few pieces, and this really shows it! The color and mood is great, your lineart is excellent (the weight and feel of the shirt portrayed through the thickness of lines rather than excess wrinkles or something like that) and the style you chose to draw him suits the scene so well! (I love his lips) Excellent work!

And just because I keep looking at it, I thought I'd mention I keep getting this interesting sort of sense of smuttyness or intimacy from the close placement of his crotch to the space in the couch cushions. Maybe it's because it's 7 in the morning that the gap in the cushions between his legs reminds me of a vagina? I dunno XD
:iconmisskittyoooo:
HAHA OMG I thought noone would ever mention that! It was accidental at first but then totally on purpose!
Thats why I couldnt stop laughing when I was working on this one XD

That's a shame that he's a needle user. BUT, it's a great painting. The dark feel really captures the dangerous and sickness of it all. And even tho it repulses me a little due to the nature, you did a fine job on the arm where all the little needle holes are. **I have terrible a needle phobia**
