Also, you guys don't have to ask to watch me, please go ahead and do it. If you want to kept updated on the news and updates to the comic gallery just make sure the Journal/news checkbox is checked and you'll get everything you need on the comics gallery.
I LOVE that you guys want to keep up to date with the gallery, so please, by all means watch me, you can always un-watch me later when I'm not a gallery Director anymore (if you want).

In the works

Right now, I'm working on adding in the gallery descriptions and making some changes to the existing ones.
My goal is to make it a little easier for people as there has been some confusion on the difference between what DeviantART calls comics and Cartoons.
After looking through and writing the category descriptions I've figured out that a comic is sequential or tells a story, where as a cartoon is a static image drawn in cartoon or comic style.

Offline a cartoon can be anything from a comic short to a TV program and comics usually refer to continuing storyline usually in the form of a comic book.

But on DA we cant get so complicated on things. So simply put, comic strips, pages and covers go into comics, just drawings go in cartoons.

I hope thats clear to everyone, of course if you have any questions please feel free to comment or note me.

I hope to have the gallery descriptions all finished within the next week or two, with some changes coming after that as needed.
If there are any specific areas of confusion I have not covered let me know so I can address them ASAP.
You may have noticed some changes already, it's a slow process and the tools are a little hard to use so please be patient I'm doing the best I can.

Clearing up the difference between Cartoons and Comics

These are the gallery descriptions from the submission process, I've edited them slightly based on some of the questions and concerns people have brought up with me so let me know if these descriptions are clear enough for you!

A cartoon is often but not always a humorous or satirical drawing, the characters of which are often executed with exaggerated, even caricaturish proportions and facial expressions. Generally speaking cartoons simplify or exaggerate people or events. For the purpose of this gallery, cartoons do not utilize extensive dialogue and don't typically extend beyond one full page rendition or one panel. Cartoons are best described as a stand alone image drawing in cartoon or comic style.

A comic can consist of one or more pictures, panels or frames, usually in a sequence, thus the phrase sequential art. Traditionally the subject matter is humorous, especially in the case of short comics or comic strips, however this is not necessarily the case with more contemporary comics or graphic novels that can span any of several genres from romantic drama to horror. This gallery may contain single panel comics, which utilize a caption to underline the action in the scene; comic strips, which are generally a series of three to six panels but usually no greater than half a page, utilize dialogue, and can be used to develop a story serially; or graphic novels, which can span several pages and involve more developed plot lines.

Projects, contest and more

We have gathered a few volunteers to help with our latest fun project, as soon as we get all the materials together I'll set up and announce it!
Thanks to everyone who volunteered their work, I hope we can always count on your guys help and support!

Cleared up once and for all

Alright folks, after a little meeting with other involved GD's and $Moonbeam13 the Fanart issue has finally been officially laid to rest.
For a Q&A and information regarding just WHAT fanart is please check out the AR update posted by ^animator [link] .
Thats it, thats the final word on the matter. If you dont like these policies, then your only alternative is to not post your Fanwork on DA.

Daily Deviations

I'm getting too many fanart suggestions and too many Anime/manga suggestions.
If you see fanart or manga/anime in the comics galleries please report them as a miscat, please.

Manga/Anime suggestions go to ^RockGirl1582, ^azarath or ^Karma021
Fanart suggestions (of all styles and subjects) go to ^animator

I accept comics and cartoons only (not fanart comics and cartoons).

I'm well aware that Manga are comics as well ( what am I stupid?) but you need to be aware that we recognize that, but that there is a separate gallery for it and it belongs in there.
Don't debate the "manga are comics" thing with me, noone denied it so your arguments are pointless. There IS a pages gallery in M&A.
Plain and simple, I cant and wont DD Manga/Anime, so please just suggest to the right Gallery Directors.

If you need anything

If you have any questions, need anything promoted (comics and cartoons related), need a judge for a contest, or need any help with a project, please don't hesitate to note me and ask.
If I have the time I'll try and do what I can to help get your comics and cartoon related stuff exposure and help.

I'm your cartoons and comics gallery director so I am at your service!
let me know if I'm doing a good job =D

Thanks to everyone for all the watches and favs and comments. I really appreciate it!

i think it's sort of rude to just stare through your window without asking permission to stalk first.

It is a good thing that you clarify stuff! Alas, people usually skip the Gallery Description. Including me, I only recently cared to read the descriptions to understand the difference between People and Portrait & Figure, and I see I have to move a number of deviations... Sigh.

BTW, I don't regret to watch fully some gallery directors, including you, as they do a good art job too! ^_^

82% of statistics in signatures are made up. :rip: (This is a recursive signature...)
Spreading them is un-original and sheepish. If you agree, copy this in your... wait, no! :D
No to signature clichés! You are on an art site, be creative!

DISCLAIMER: Above statements may be entirely false.

:iconcoffeestainedstudio:
Comics are juxtaposed pictorial and other images in deliberate sequence. So says Scott McCloud.
:iconfranko-gap:
Something I was thinking about while reading this journal... Where's the line where you start to consider a comic as manga? As "manga" is just the japanese word for what in english language you call "comic"...

OK, I know what do you mean if we are talking about manga in terms of japanese comic cliche. But what about non-cliche or european-influenced japanese authors? And what about non-japanese authors with a japanese influence?

I'm not trying to argue or something, just asking for a clarification. For I am a little bit confused about it. Even thou I'm not posting in those galleries. But I like comics and cartoons and I'm just having this doubt.

Is graffiti art or vandalism?
That word has a lot of negative connotations and it alienates people, so no, I don't like to use the word 'art' at all.

The racial background of the author is never taken into consideration. It all depends on the style of the artwork, paneling, and toning/colouring in the comics itself.
Manga has a certain undefinable quality that is easy to identify, and in the case of something being borderline or harder to identify, I tend to leave them where the artist puts them.
